The Jewish Community Center’s Award-winning New Jewish Theatre, St. Louis’ Premier Small Professional Theatre, presents a season of five plays from September through May of each year. Each production runs for 3 weeks with performances on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays (matinee and evening). The company’s home is the Marvin & Harlene Wool Studio Theatre in the A&E building of the JCC’s Staenberg Family Complex in Creve Coeur. Capacity is approximately 125 in a comfortable environment on the street level of the building with ample, well- lit, free parking.
Tickets are available at a substantial savings as a series subscription, or may be purchased on an individual show basis. They are available through the box office (314-442-3283) or online through the theatre’s website. Subscribers have the benefit of unlimited ticket exchanges for each show.
The company presents challenging, provocative theatre that examines universal themes and issues filtered through the lens of the Jewish experience. Additionally, NJT strives to build multi-cultural bridges of understanding and tolerance through educational outreach programs such as post-performance talk backs, panel discussions, etc.
NJT’s Youth Theatre Program provides educational and performance outreach to youth K – 8.
As a professional theatre, the New Jewish Theatre participates in the annual Kevin Kline Awards and has received multiple nominations and awards. St. Louis Magazine named NJT as St. Louis’ Best Theatre Company in their A-List edition in 2008. Productions have received critical praise from all media reviewers and critics.
Additionally, New Jewish Theatre is expanding its offerings to include a Chamber Music Series and a one week summer Chamber Music Festival, the Gesher Music Festival of Emerging Artists.
